As an environmental activist and overall tree-hugger, I tend to gravitate toward businesses that adopt an earth-friendly attitude and strive to keep the air cleaner and the water safer not only for humans to play it, but for the animals that inhabit those vast oceans.
Because of this moral obligation to preserve the well-being of the one and only world we get to live upon, I was especially interested in Sheryl Homes, a new home builder in Altus, Oklahoma. Due to a new “Green Standard” set forth by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), Sheryl Homes be able will now shift their practices using earth-friendly practices and materials.
During a news conference at the International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Florida, it was announced that, “the new National Green Building Standard will maintain the flexibility of green building practices while providing a common national benchmark for builders, remodelers and developers – another big step for the green building movement.”
In simpler terms for homebuyers interested in creating an eco-friendly home, the new guidelines will be required to include green features for water, energy, and resource efficiency, as well as lot and site development, indoor environmental quality and homeowner education in continuing a cleaner environment.
The new standard also provides much-need education to the homebuilder as well. According to Miles Haber, a developer of multifamily homes in Rockville, Maryland, “The National Green Building Standard will make it easier for builders to build green. Having this information available in an ANSI standard means that it’s in the language that builders don’t need a special consultant to understand.”
With the new age of green practices and efforts on behalf of businesses and consumers alike to help make a difference, it is refreshing to know that new home builders like Sheryl Homes in Altus, Oklahoma is taking the essential first step in shifting to the “Green Standard.”
