2007 Women’s World Cup: Typhoon Wipha Wipes Out Scheduled Matches

Atlanta, Ga. 9/19/2007 01:53 PM GMT (WooEB)

The matches between China and Australia and Canada and New Zealand have been pushed back one day as a result of Typhoon Wipha.

Typhoon Wipha caused the postponement of a Group C clash between Norway and Ghana as well as the Group D match between Brazil and Denmark. Those two games will be played Thursday.

FIFA opted to use Thursday as the final day for group play after learning of the dangers posed by the typhoon.

Wipha led Chinese officials to evacuate 200,000 people from Shanghai yesterday after learning the storm could become a super typhoon by the time it hit land.
