Community of “small city values, big city life,” the City of Kaufman has selected Mr. Michael S. Holder, currently a lieutenant with the City of Dallas Police Department
Promoting itself as a community of “small city values, big city life,” the City of Kaufman has selected Mr. Michael S. Holder, currently a lieutenant with the City of Dallas Police Department, as their new Chief of Police. As of 2007, Kaufman's population is 8,058 people. Since 2000, it has had a population growth of 24.16 percent—far exceeding the national average. Kaufman, Texas, in Kaufman County, is approximately 30 miles east-southeast of Dallas, Texas. The city benefits from easy access to the nearby cities and towns with which it shares the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area.
The executive recruitment was conducted by Waters-Oldani Executive Recruitment, a division of The Waters Consulting Group, Inc. of Dallas, Texas. Seventy-two qualified candidates vied for the position won by Mr. Holder on August 11, 2008. He will assume his duties as Kaufman Chief of Police on November 20, 2008.
Mr. Chuck Rohre, was the lead consultant on this recruitment for The Waters Consulting Group. He commented on this project, “Our outreach on this project was broad—throughout Texas and the Southwest—yet the selected candidate turned out to be close to home. The mayor and city manager were very helpful, cooperative and positive throughout this recruitment. They worked hard, too—as hard as the Waters people sometimes—and they remained involved throughout the screening and interviewing process. I’m gratified to have them as satisfied clients. We at Waters-Oldani Executive Recruitment worked hard to develop a top quality pool of candidates and they chose the right person for the job.” Information about Waters-Oldani Executive Recruitment is available here.
Mr. Holder is a long-time resident of Kaufman County where he has been very active in leadership. He chaired the Planning and Zoning Committee, the Capital Improvements Committee and participated in the Charter Review committee for the City of Kaufman. Reached for comment today on his upcoming role, he offered, “I am very excited indeed. Kaufman is a rapidly growing city but still retains its ‘small town’ feel. In the Police Department, we will be facing the challenges of transitioning from a small-town department to one facing bigger-city issues. I’m fortunate that I have a very good core group of officers with substantial experience in and commitment to Kaufman who realize the department has to be ingrained in the fabric of the community. I’m going to be out there meeting people and working to make that happen.”
A graduate of Amberton University with a BS degree in Human Relations and Business, Mr. Holder is also certified in FEMA Emergency Management Certifications, Incident Command System (ICS) Certifications and a graduate of the Institute for Law Enforcement Adminstration 39th Management College.
“We’re very excited about this appointment, and I feel Chief Holder will be a tremendous asset to our community,” said Dr. William Fortner, mayor of Kaufman. “He was by far the most qualified candidate that we interviewed. I’m very pleased with our choice.”
The Waters Consulting Group, Waters-Oldani Executive Recruitment Division, is proud to have successfully conducted this recruitment for the City of Kaufman, Texas.
