Bee Gees musician Robin Gibb passed away over the weekend following a long battle with numerous health problems, including cancer and a severe case of pneumonia that put him in a coma. His family confirmed his death in a statement released Sunday.

"The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery. The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time,” the family said.

Gibb formed the Bee Gees in 1958 with twin brother Maurice and older brother Barry. Their hits include “How Deep Is Your Love,” “Stayin Alive” and “Night Fever.” The trio won seven Grammy Awards and Five American Music Awards. They earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1979 and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 1997.

Gibb also had a successful solo career. He released 7 albums, the most recent being this year’s Titanic Requiem.

The musician is survived by wife Dwina and three children.
